Safety Instructions#

CAUTION

High-frequency radar radiation

If the safety distance of 20 cm to the radar exit surface is not maintained for a longer period of time, exposed parts of the body may become hot.

  • Maintain a safety distance of 20 cm during the scanning process.
  • Do not stay in the radar range longer than necessary.

Intended Use#

The RadarImager is an imaging radar system that is used to generate radar images of industrial products. It is typically mounted and operated within production lines above moving transport systems such as conveyor belts and works with the Vision GenICam standard.

The module may only be operated with an approved power supply. Only approved cables may be connected.

To guarantee faultless function in accordance with the specifications in the technical data, use the product exclusively as follows: - As described in the operating instructions and in the applicable documents. - In compliance with the technical specifications and requirements. - Only with suitable original Balluff accessories.

Failure to do so constitutes improper use. This is not permitted and leads to the loss of warranty and liability claims against the manufacturer.

Reasonably Foreseeable Misuse#

The product is not intended for the following applications and areas and must not be used there:

  • In safety-related applications in which personal safety depends on the device function.
  • In the outdoor area.
  • In potentially explosive atmospheres.

General Safety Instructions#

Activities such as installation, connection, and commissioning may only be carried out by trained specialists.

A trained specialist is someone who is able to assess the work assigned to them, recognize potential hazards and take appropriate safety measures based on their technical training, knowledge and experience as well as their knowledge of the relevant regulations.

The operator is responsible for ensuring that the locally applicable safety regulations are complied with. In particular, the operator must take measures to ensure that no danger to persons or property can arise in the event of a defect in the product.

The product must not be opened, converted, or modified. If the product is defective or malfunctions cannot be rectified, it must be taken out of operation and secured against unauthorized use.

To ensure functional safety, a Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV)/Protective Extra Low Voltage (PELV) power supply unit must always be used.

The product may only be operated with power supplies approved for this purpose. All external circuits connected to the terminal must be SELV/PELV.

Only approved cables with a minimum size of AWG 12 may be used. All connected cables must have a temperature resistance of at least 90 °C. Only use copper conductors.

To avoid damaging the protection provided by the device, the device may only be used as specified in these instructions.

Do not use the product in the vicinity of the following persons, facilities, or equipment:

  • Military facilities, airports or radio-astronomical facilities without prior authorization.
  • Persons with pacemakers.
  • Pregnant women.
  • Medical equipment.
