Used Symbols and Conventions#

Individual instructions are indicated by a preceding triangle.

► Instruction

Sequences of actions are shown as numbered steps:
1. Step 1
2. Step 2

This info box indicates general notes.

Meaning of Warning Notices#

Be sure to observe the warning notices in this manual and the described measures to avoid hazards.

The warning notices used contain different signal words and are structured as follows:

SIGNAL WORD

Type and source of hazard
Consequences if the hazard is ignored

► Measures to avert the hazard

The signal words mean the following:

CAUTION

Indicates a hazard that may lead to damage or destruction of the product.

WARNING

The general warning symbol in connection with the signal word WARNING indicates a hazard that may lead to minor or moderate injuries.

Used Technical Terms and Abbreviations#

Technical Terms#

  • Blind zone
Area in which objects cannot be detected.
  • Dielectric constant
Ratio of the electric field strength in a vacuum to the field strength in the material. The higher the dielectric constant, the better an object can be detected by the sensor.
  • EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility)
Ability of a device to operate without interference in an electromagnetic environment.
  • Detection range
Area in which objects can be detected.
  • FMCW (Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave)
Method for distance measurement using frequency-modulated radar signals.
  • IO-Link
Standardized interface for communication between sensors/actuators and automation systems.
  • IP69K
Degree of protection against dust and high-pressure/steam jet cleaning.
  • Purdue Level 0
Level of the Purdue reference architecture for industrial automation systems.
  • Radar reflex gate mode
Operating mode of the sensor that works even with poor reflection properties of the target object, as long as there is a reflective surface behind the object to be detected.
  • Radar cross section
Measure of the reflection of radar signals by an object.
