Detecting rims in reflex-gate mode

Challenge:

In an aluminum rim production company, there is a high level of pollution. A mixture of cooling lubricant and small aluminum chips is dripping from the roof and laying upon the equipment. This leads to disfunctions of sensors. The cleaning and maintenance of these sensors is expensive and turns down the OEE.

Solution:

A radar sensor in an M30 housing (IP69K) operating at 122 GHz is working failure-free in these harsh environments, also when cooling lubricant is supplied directly on the lens of the sensor. In the reflex-gate mode a machines or conveyor belts metal-backplate can be used as a reflector.

Advantages:

  • Reduced process costs, because less cleaning and maintenance effort
