Variant Configuration

Description

The device variant can be changed either via ISDU with this parameter or by using the IO-Link compatibility mode. If this parameter is written, the device variant is not changed immediately but instead after the device is restarted. If the device variant is changed via the IO-Link compatibility mode, the change in this parameter is visible immediately.

This parameter is not changed by a reset.

Hint

After a variant changeover, an inconsistent configuration may occur because there is no automatic changeover of parameters.

It is therefore recommended that the setup be done in the following order:

  1. Variant setting

  2. Activate the variant with a device restart.

  3. Check parameters and set valid parameters if necessary or use Data Storage (see Data Storage).

Note

After setting the Product to a Device Variant, this ISDU is no longer accessible because it is not present int the original Silver Line Smartlight

It is therefore required to perform the following steps if the compatibility mode was set incorrectly or is no longer wanted:

  1. Perform Back-to-Box or Factory Reset.

  2. Powercycle the Device.

  3. The Device will no longer be in Compatibility mode, allowing to change this ISDU again.

Using Device Variants

With device Variants it is possible to configure a Smartlight in a way, so a connected Controller won’t see a difference against the original Version. This can be helpful, when the Controller is running a code which was optimized for Silver Line Smartlights but Black Line shall be used. That way the IODD for Silver Line can be used to control the Black Line Smartlight. The product will identify to the controller with all its IDs with the configured Version.
